PERSONALITY

For better or worse, he's a big damn hero. He's brave, sincere, generous, not especially wise, all of it. Hawke believes that most people are mostly good and prefers to solve problems with words before resorting to fists. He gets frustrated when things can't be reasoned out. Part of the trouble is he sees both sides of problems and gets stuck in the middle, taking too much time trying to reconcile the irreconcilable then blaming himself when it doesn't work.

Hawke would like to be a laid back person, and likes fun as much as anyone else, but he's always worrying about something underneath. It doesn't help that he usually tries to shoulder a bigger load than he can carry. The whole "I must always protect my family/my friends who are like my family" thing he learned after losing his father is well-intentioned, but can also be frustrating for others. (Especially his brother. Garrett tries really hard not to older-brother him too much and can't help it.)

Hawke's witty, but got more and more serious as the situation around him worsened. He still thinks snappy retorts, and their bitterness has increased proportionally with the bullshit, but responsibility demands discretion.

By Inquisition, Hawke is a fairly grumpy person who feels like a royal fuckup but isn't sure what he can realistically do to make up for it. He's partly right to feel bad about Kirkwall (because he could have done some things better) but he overestimates how much he could've fixed and is over-critical of himself about the choices he made and signs he didn't notice.

Hawke's a nice guy, he's kind and loyal and really wants to do good, but he needs to get over things he can't change and find some chill.

WORLD STATE I'll play assuming he didn't romance anyone unless you signal you want that. :|b

Dragon Age 2
Made generally diplomatic decisions while occasionally succumbing to the temptation to make bad jokes. (I'm flexible on details if something else sounds fun.)

Discovered and told Carver about his namesake.
Carver joined the Grey Wardens.
Spared Bartrand's life and told Varric to destroy the red lyrium shard.
Helped Isabela, and in turn she brought back the Tome of Koslun when the qunari were attacking.
Helped Merrill repair her eluvian and faced the awful consequences with her.
Fenris is a free elf.
Helped get Aveline together with Donnic.
Earned the respect of the Arishok with his forthrightness, but ultimately wound up in a duel to the death with him in defense of Isabela.
Generally supported the mages, but condemned (most) blood magic and didn't particularly enjoy harming templars.
Condemned Anders's actions at the Chantry and feels like it's his fault for not realizing/stopping it. Couldn't bring himself to kill him. Hopes he never sees him again and feels bad for hoping that.

After Dragon Age 2
Hawke fled Kirkwall after the hostilities between the mages and templars exploded, both because it was prudent (considering how many people considered him partially responsible and considering that he was a known apostate) and because he just couldn't stand to be anywhere near it anymore. He could've tried harder to dissociate himself from Anders's actions, but he broke and ran instead.

In an effort to be doing something useful, he started trying to find leads on the red lyrium but didn't turn up anywhere near as much as he hoped to.

He kept in touch with his friends and his brother, but communication from Hawke was pretty minimal for a while. He decided it was better to stay away from the Inquisition because he wasn't sure what kind of reception he'd get, and even if he wanted to help he doubted they'd appreciate being associated with the other apostate that helped blow up Kirkwall.

...But Varric asked him to come, and Hawke wouldn't be Hawke if he weren't willing to do nearly anything to help an old friend.
PERMISSIONS [OOC]
Backtagging: Yes
Threadhopping: Yes
Slowness: Totally fine, don't feel bad
Assumed CR: I love it
AUs and Whatnot: Always! I can bend him into other canons and cheerfully accept AU CR in his. Weird continuity shuffling and what-ifs are gr9.
Fourthwalling: No
Offensive subjects (elaborate): I don't have any particular triggers, but maybe communicate with me if we're going somewhere shocking
Shipping?: I'm down for it, but am assuming unromanced unless discussed oocly first. Actually more interested in noncanon/crosscanon than canon romances but hey, talk to me?
He's an idealist, and has a huge thing for people fighting for a noble cause. He will believe in you 100% and probably fuss over you too much.

[IC]
Hugging this character: Go for it
Kissing this character: Also go for it
Flirting with this character: Also also go for it
Fighting with this character: You can! Talk with me so we can work it out. He prefers not to go to blows (or fireballs) if he can avoid it, though.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): If you want to punch him in the face or something that's fine, but don't go cutting his arm off or something without grabbing me first?
Killing this character: Not out of nowhere, but if you want a dramatic heroic sacrifice he's probably your guy.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: It's tough because grown mages only get where they are by fending off demonic possession for most of their lives, but I'm happy to work with you.
